Alongside his wife Diane, Marc Gubbini began his passion for collecting in 1985 after completing his university studies. As a young, emerging architect with only modest funds to allocate to art, he followed the maxim that "in the beginning, a collector has the choice of either buying works in edition or on paper from a renowned artist, or buying medium-sized drawings or paintings from an emerging artist.” Adhering to this principle, Diane and Marc initiated their collection with a lithograph by an internationally renowned artist, in this case Hans Hartung, whom they discovered through the gallery owner Jean Aulner. Works by Luxembourgish artists as well as artists of other national and international renown followed over a period spanning more than three decades.

Over the years, they have established solid friendships with key players on the art scene including a large number of artists and gallery owners. Many artists have come to Luxembourg to visit the collection and rediscover their work.

The passion they share leads Diane and Marc to invest in almost all mediums on the artistic spectrum from editions and multiples, drawings and paintings, to floor and wall sculptures, neon lights, photographs, videos and, recently, digital works.

Given that Diane studied architecture and worked with Marc, who is a practicing architect, it was they themselves who have designed the premises housing their collection such as to allow a perfect presentation and enhancement of their works. It is a daily pleasure they share with their friends and many other art lovers and collectors.

Marc Gubbini is delighted to be joining the selection committee of Luxembourg Art Week, and true to his maxim "Collecting is not a question of money: it is a question of interest, commitment and passion" he will bring to this 2022 edition the thirty-five years of expertise acquired with his wife, nourished by their insatiable curiosity.
