For over fifteen years, the Fonds Kirchberg has entrusted distinguished representatives of contemporary photography with the task of documenting the urban and architectural evolution of this constantly changing area. For the 2022-2023 edition, it's Christian Aschman's (b. 1966) turn to bring his photographic eye to bear on this place where historical strata are juxtaposed and where new constructions appear while others disappear.
Driven by a desire for completeness, Christian Aschman criss-crossed the area for over a year, shooting more than fifty photo sessions. In the process, he gained access to a number of buildings, capturing views from above that reveal a world hidden from the eyes of pedestrians. Graphic lines drawn by chance or by the hand of man make up these meticulously framed bird's-eye views. Vegetation, sometimes controlled, sometimes luxuriant, appears as a subject in its own right, while humans rarely enter the composition. It's also the very expanse of the Plateau that we rediscover through the eyes of this photographer with a passion for architecture.
luca – Luxembourg Center for Architecture
Le luca – Luxembourg Center for Architecture est une fondation privée sans but lucratif créée en 1992 sous l’appellation de « Fondation de l’Architecture et de l’Ingénierie », avec pour principale mission d’assurer la promotion de la qualité architecturale comme un fait culturel.
A travers une approche pluridisciplinaire et multiscalaire, le luca aborde les problématiques et enjeux auxquels sont confrontés les différents acteurs qui interviennent dans la production de l’environnement bâti. Principal acteur de la culture architecturale au Luxembourg, le luca s’est positionné comme une plateforme d’échange et de débat autour des thèmes de l’architecture, de l’ingénierie, de l’urbanisme, du paysagisme, du design et d’autres disciplines affines.
Chaque année, le luca met en œuvre un programme culturel adapté à la diversité de ses publics : cycles de conférences et de débats, expositions, visites guidées, ateliers pédagogiques, voyages d’étude, projections de films et documentaires, etc.
