Since 1977, the European Academy of Art Trier (EKA) has been dedicated to all facets of the visual arts and offers a wide range of courses, intensive studies and part-time programmes. This is complemented by a lively cultural landscape in the immediate vicinity of the Moselle, with the Kunsthalle Trier at its centre.

Since 1993, the Kunsthalle has been the largest exhibition venue for contemporary art in the region. It presents around seven exhibitions a year, focusing on European art from the 1980s to the present day. A particular emphasis is placed on contemporary painting, which is also the most important department within the academy.

The exhibitions are complemented by openings, guided tours, lectures and a diverse accompanying programme that is closely linked to the academy’s teaching. This makes the Kunsthalle a place of exchange where students, teachers, international guests and the general public can engage in dialogue with one another.

Its integration into the European Academy of Art makes the Kunsthalle Trier unique: it is not only a showcase for contemporary art, but also an integral part of cultural education for adults, young people and children.
