Julien Hübsch’s artistic practice is deeply engaged with the dynamics of urban space, focusing on the material traces of human intervention and the evolving aesthetics of contemporary vandalism. His work examines how these traces are inscribed into the urban fabric, questioning their permanence, erasure, and the mechanisms through which they are absorbed or eliminated. By engaging with the discourse of post-vandalism, he navigates the shifting boundaries between destruction and creation, transgression and integration. Hübsch draws particular inspiration from the unintended compositions that emerge on construction sites and within urban signage—ephemeral assemblages shaped by necessity, chance, and decay. His practice seeks to extract and recontextualize their inherent artistic qualities, often incorporating found materials as integral components of his work. The painterly sensibility he applies to composition and color, combined with his deliberate selection of materials, emphasizes the interplay between spontaneity and artistic intent, revealing the poetic potential inherent in the urban environment.

With LOOPS (2025), Julien Hübsch reimagines a familiar element of construction sites, bright yellow waste chutes, as a sculptural gesture. Detached from their functional context and arranged into a looping form, they transform from utilitarian objects into a poetic commentary on the urban environment. Hübsch’s practice explores the traces of human intervention and the shifting line between creation and destruction. Here, the playful circularity of LOOPS invites viewers to reflect on how infrastructure shapes our perception of public space and how everyday materials can be reabsorbed into artistic language.

Julien Hübsch (b. 1995, Esch-sur-Alzette) lives and works between Luxembourg and Germany.
